The Society of Ethnobotanists completed 10 years of establishment in 1989. Some Life Members suggested that the Society should start giving honour its Lifemembers as Fellow (FES) on such occasion. The then President asked a small committee to examine the suggestion. The committee’s recommendations were accepted by the Executive Council with following decision:

  • In the first instance, all Life Members of at least three years standing in 1991 (i.e. those who became Life Members in or before 1989) will be deemed to be elected as Fellows w.e.f. 1-1-1992 and they will be entitled to write FES’ against their names.
  • Thereafter each year the Life Members of three years standing will become FELLOWS, i.e. members of 1990 from 1-1-1993, of 1991 from 1-1-1994 and so on.
  • A well designed certificate to be prepared for giving to all the Fellows on payment of Rs. 500/- (for foreigners US $ 50.00 by Demand Draft in the name of Society), being charges to cover the cost of Certificate and registered postage. The lists of Fellows elected from 1-1-1992, 1-1-1993 and 1-1-1994 have been circulated through Journal of Ethnobotany (Vol.3, Vol.5 & Vol.6 respectively) as well as personal communications. The certificates were sent to all desired persons.
  • But currently the Life members on completion of three years residency period have to apply for FES and send application to the Secretary, SEB highlighting significant contributions in the area of Ethnobotany. The applications must be proposed and seconded by the past/present Executive Council/ Editorial Board members.  The applications are screened by a duly constituted committee as approved by EC and successful candidates are intimated accordingly and notified in the SEB journal.
